Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips believes the club can catch Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he thinks the Whites can still catch Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Thomas Christiansen’s side started the season in blistering form, dropping just four points in the first seven games, but their first defeat sparked a worrying slide.

With eight defeats in 11 games, Leeds’ superb start to the campaign was in danger of being undone, but the 4-1 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers last month appears to have sparked a return to form.

Three wins and a draw since that loss at Molineux has seen Leeds return to the fringes of the play-off places, and Christiansen will be hoping for a strong Christmas period.

Whilst the play-off may be the aim for some fans, one Leeds player is still looking a little higher than that, with automatic promotion on his sights.

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he still thinks the Whites can catch league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers if they can string together another strong run of form.

Phillips doesn’t feel that anybody can stop Leeds if they return to their early season form, and is pleased that the Whites are currently grinding out results, such as Saturday’s 1-0 win over Norwich.

“Obviously Wolves are a really good team and they have got quite a lot of points,” said Phillips. “But I believe that if we go on a run like we did at the beginning of the season then I don’t think there’s any team that can stop us – the way that we played, and the way that we are playing now.”

“I think we are grinding results out and that’s what good teams do. Norwich came to us and they wanted the three points but we grinded it out and we got the three points ourselves,” he added.

With 36 points to their name, Leeds sit 15 points behind Wolves and 11 points adrift of second-placed Cardiff City, with automatic promotion in danger of fading into the distance – but with Phillips still holding out, the Whites have something to aim for.
