The Whites fan favourite has committed his future to Elland Road until 2024.
After a protracted transfer saga over the summer, Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips has finally committed his long-term future to Elland Road, tying the 23-year-old midfielder down to a new contract until the summer of 2024 (official Leeds website).
Over the summer, the Whites ace was linked with a number of Premier League sides, but Leeds held firm despite offers upwards of £20million coming their way, and with the window closed, the Elland Road outfit worked on securing his services for the long term.
This has now been achieved, much to the delight of the vast majority of the Leeds fanbase, and the Whites’ decision to stick with securing Phillips’ services rather than twist and go for the money looks to be a truly great call considering his exploits so far for the club.
As noted on Whoscored, the defensive midfielder has made more tackles than any other player in the Championship this season, and in every league game so far, his standards have been consistently high, the stats website’s ratings for the player not dropping below a 7 out of 10 thus far.
With Leeds determined to seal a return to the top flight, they have never been as equipped for the job as they are now, with legendary manager Marcelo Bielsa and a team packed with quality, and Phillips’ proven defensive qualities, keeping opposition players at bay with his bold tackles, will no doubt play a huge role in this and beyond.
Phillips, born and bred in Leeds, joined the Whites academy as a 14-year-old and has progressed through the ranks, going on to amass 149 senior appearances for the club, and has flourished in a deeper midfield role under Bielsa since the Argentine’s arrival in 2018.
