Leeds United start the Marcelo Bielsa era this weekend, with a match against Stoke City.
Bielsa had a big reputation abroad, but none of Leeds’ players had worked with him first-hand before.
And Phillips has suggested that all of the Whites players were keen to learn about their new manager, as soon as the news filtered through that he would be in charge.
“We were a bit, like, does anybody know what he’s like? And obviously no one had anything to say,” Phillips said.
Leeds’ players will be more familiar with Bielsa now, after what has been a gruelling pre-season.
Bielsa has demanded his players be in for long training sessions, as he looks to get them to adapt to his famous style.
Leeds have already pressed with great energy throughout pre-season, although their results in friendly matches have not always been encouraging.
Phillips has actually been converted to a centre-back by Bielsa, and looks set to start at the back for the Whites this season.
Leeds get the Bielsa underway this weekend, when they take on Stoke City.
