Leeds ace Kalvin Phillips spoke exclusively to the club’s match-day programme about the impact that Marcelo Bielsa has had at Elland Road, and opened up on the first change that the Argentine wanted to implement when arriving in west Yorkshire, as quoted by Leeds Live.

The Whites have made a decent start to life under Bielsa, and currently sit in second spot in the Championship table, two points adrift of league leaders Sheffield United.

The 63-year-old has implemented a wonderfully attractive, expansive brand of football at Leeds, and many are tipping them to earn promotion back to the Premier League this season.

They have also looked a lot fitter and stronger than they were last term, and Phillips, who has played a key role for Leeds this season shared how Bielsa immediately went about improving his side’s fitness, as quoted by Leeds Live:

“It is a massive name (Bielsa), he has a good reputation and the lads were just excited to get back to Thorp Arch, work under him and work hard. That’s what we have done. The first thing we did when we came in was running and fitness work. We had to lose a certain amount of weight.”

Next up for Leeds is a trip to Wigan Athletic on Sunday, and Bielsa’s men will be expecting to return to Elland Road with all three points to show for their efforts.
