Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has praised Robin Koch on BBC Radio Leeds.

Phillips has added that the Germany international central defender will be a miss for the team.

The England international midfielder has also said that the 24-year-old struggled initially, but the summer signing from Freiburg has been very good in the last few games.

Leeds announced on their official website today that Koch will undergo knee surgery in London.

The 24-year-old Germany international centre-back could now miss the next few weeks and perhaps even months.

Phillips said about Koch on BBC Radio Leeds: “Obviously Robin’s a massive miss. This season he has been unbelievable, especially in the last three, four games. He found it tough at the start, but I think he has grown into the team as if he has been here for years.”

Important player for Leeds United

Koch has been quite good for Leeds so far this season and has established himself as an important player in the team.

According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old has played 11 times in the Premier League for the West Yorkshire club so far this season.

Koch will be a miss for Leeds, but head coach Marcelo Bielsa does have options in defence.

Diego Llorente joined the Whites in the summer of 2020 and will now be looking to make himself a regular in central defence alongside Liam Cooper.
