Leeds United are out of the Carabao Cup, but there was a sense of optimism emanating from Elland Road after their penalty shootout defeat.

Kalvin Phillips has taken to social media to comment on Leeds’ Carabao Cup exit, and despite the penalty shootout agony, the midfielder clearly came away from the game feeling extremely positive as he lauded Marcelo Bielsa’s side as well as the fans who came to Elland Road.
Just days after thrashing Stoke City in the Championship, the Whites faced the same opposition in the second round of the League Cup. It had appeared that the scoreline may be similarly emphatic, but with a different side coming out on top.
Leeds were 2-0 down at the break, prompting Marcelo Bielsa to make a triple change which saw three of the young players taken off and replaced by Ben White, Adam Forshaw and Jack Harrison.
And the decision paid off as Leeds produced a superb fightback, with Eddie Nketiah and Helder Costa scoring and the Whites coming agonisingly close to scoring a winner before the final whistle blew.

Unfortunately for Leeds, the lottery of penalties did not fall in their favour as Harrison was the only player to miss from the spot as his effort hit the post.
The conclusion of the game however, sparked a remarkable reaction inside Elland Road, with Harrison’s name being sung by the supporters and the victorious away fans being largely drowned out by the noise coming from the rest of the stadium.

And Phillips – who did manage to score from the spot – suggested on social media after the game that the fans are crazy as he also commented on being a part of the current Whites side.
