Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips name-checked both West Ham United’s Jesse Lingard and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, when asked which players had impressed him in England training on MOTDX.

Phillips is still establishing himself as part of the national team, with the Leeds midfielder relatively inexperienced at the top level.

And he says that Lingard’s and Kane’s leadership qualities are already something that he feels he can learn off in future.

“I think I learn off everyone,” he admitted.

“But you see players like Rashford and Jesse Lingard and stuff like that. Even someone like Harry Kane. Be a bit more of a leader. I don’t think that I’m too good at it at the minute, but hopefully I can start to get good at it after I’ve got a few more games under my belt.”

Leeds can only benefit from Phillips learning off players with the class and experience of Lingard and Kane.

Phillips and Lingard both actually played in England’s game against San Marino last night, while Kane was left on the bench.

The pair helped the Three Lions to a 5-0 with, with Lingard particularly prominent on the evening, despite failing to get on the scoresheet.

Tottenham striker Kane is now likely to start in England’s next game, which comes against Albania on Sunday.
