Kalvin Phillips thinks Jack Harrison deserves Leeds United’s survival more than anyone else, after speaking to the club’s YouTube channel. Harrison scored the winner that kept Leeds up, in their 2-1 win over Brentford.

Harrison, 25, enjoyed his best goalscoring season in Leeds colours since joining the club in the summer of 2018. He netted 10 goals and would have got a lot more than two assists had Patrick Bamford been fit during 21-22.

With Leeds looking safe given Burnley were losing 2-1 to Newcastle, Harrison made sure with a strike from the best part of 25 yards to down Brentford. A brilliant result for Leeds, and Harrison is crucial to them.

Phillips spoke about Harrison, a summer target for Newcastle and Tottenham, after the win over Brentford. He paid tribute to the uncapped Englishman for his work rate, claiming no-one deserves it more than him.

“Jack has been unbelievable. Jack is one of those players that always wants to be doing something, working on himself to make himself better. Nobody deserves it more than Jack, today,” Phillips said, on £11m (BBC) Harrison.

Can Leeds keep him? Harrison joined the club in Marcelo Bielsa’s first summer in charge and looked out of his depth. But over the last four years, he has become an integral part of the team – an old-fashioned type winger.

Goals, assists, work rate, and the ability to play as a left-sided wing-back, left midfielder or on the left of a front three. At times this season, he has even played up front or on the right flank. He has a bit of everything.

Leeds will now surely keep most of their players – though there is doubt regarding Raphinha and Phillips. But Harrison must be one of those that remains at Elland Road if the club are to grow in the coming months.
