Marcelo Bielsa has revitalised Leeds United this season.
Kalvin Phillips has revealed to Leeds United’s official website that much of the team’s early-season form is linked to an increased belief that Marcelo Bielsa has instilled in individual players.
Leeds are top of the Championship ahead of Saturday’s visit to Millwall.
So far, the Whites are unbeaten from six league games and have won 14 points from a possible 18.
In addition to that, Leeds are playing some seriously good football under the renowned Argentine and although it might be early, United are looking like strong promotion contenders for now.
And Phillips, one of the stars of the season so far, suggests that he and others did not believe they were good enough footballers to employ the 63-year-old’s style, until Bielsa proved otherwise.
“The head coach and staff have come in and made us realise we are good enough to play this style of football, some players didn’t think they were capable of playing football like this,” he told United’s official website.
“But I’m glad they have come in and believed in us, that we can play this football. It is always good coming off the pitch having gained three points or a point, having not lost the game.”
Leeds do indeed look like a different animal this season, but Saturday is a big test.
This time last year, the Elland Road were also unbeaten and going great under Thomas Christiansen, before a 1-0 defeat at Millwall derailed their season.
If Leeds can win at The Den this time around, in what promises to be another physical game, then it’ll be a huge indication of how far the players have come under Bielsa.
