That was some statement from Leeds United on Friday night!
It was obvious to all that the race for automatic promotion was wide open, but that 3-1 win over Leicester City at Elland Road has just dragged them back into it all.
One player who has been key to Daniel Farke’s side pushing Leeds United back towards the promised land is, Archie Gray.
The 17-year-old scored his first goal for his boyhood club against the Foxes, with his shot putting his team 2-1 ahead.
He took to Instagram to tell fans ‘great way to get my first goal’ and ‘we keep moving’, also referring to his side winning nine Championship games in a row.
From right-back to left-back, and into midfield, there are many roles Archie Gray can play and it’s pretty remarkable for a young player to put in such performances on a gruelling stage.
In the comments section of the Leeds star’s IG post, he was lauded by several players, including Kalvin Phillips and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
Praise for Archie Gray
Phillips knows exactly what it’s like coming through the Leeds academy, as he told Gray that he is a ‘wonderboy’.
Ex-Leeds star Luciano Becchio told the teenager, ‘Well done mate’, whilst Palace’s big January signing Wharton said ‘what a player’.
Archie Gray going right to the top
Leeds fans will be hoping it’s in their colours because the sky is the limit for Gray, who will play Premier League football one day, no matter what.
Sources have told HITC Football that Liverpool and Newcastle United are tracking the midfielder and they haven’t given up on signing the player.
If Leeds, who currently sit second in the table, can make a return to the Premier League, then the Elland Road faithful will have less to worry about when it comes to losing players.
Until then, they are watching a kid showcase maturity beyond his years, playing in any position he is put in and, for his sake, at the end of it all, get Leeds back in the Premier League.
