Naismith broke into Rangers senior side in 2011 after years in the youth set-up.

Former Rangers star Kal Naismith was asked by the club’s official podcast who stood out from Steven Gerrard’s side during Rangers’ 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon at Ibrox.
Naismith, 26, returned to Ibrox for the first time since leaving the club in 2013 after making 24 appearances for the club, following his debut in July 2012.
The winger has since shone for Accrington Stanley and Portsmouth, before earning a move to newly-promoted Championship side Wigan Athletic. But the Gers were too strong for the Latics on Sunday.
Indeed, Gerrard’s brutal fitness regime over the summer seemingly proved dividends, and Naismith was asked to name the player he believed stood out from Rangers side – and he surprisingly picked makeshift left-back Andy Halliday.
“Andy Halliday took my eye. I thought he was brilliant, at left-back as well. I really like him at left-back. I think he’s a top player,” Naismith said.

Halliday is yet to feature competitively under Gerrard, and the Daily Mail even claimed at the start of Gerrard’s tenure that the 26-year-old left footer was surplus to requirements at Ibrox, which makes Naismith’s comments surprising.
Rangers are next in action on Thursday night, as they look to qualify for the third round of Europa League qualifying with a win over Croatian side NK Osijek. They currently boast a 1-0 aggregate lead thanks to last week’s win.
