Leeds United recruitment chief has at least one backer.
Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix has urged his fellow Leeds United fans to stop making Victor Orta a scapegoat for the club’s troubles.
Leeds are already out of the play-off race despite a strong start to the season.
Throughout 2018, fans have singled out head of recruitment Victor Orta as reason for the club’s struggles, with most of his new signings failing to hit form.
Goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald has been a liability, striker Caleb Ekuban is yet to score a league goal, while Mateusz Klich was sent packing back to Holland on loan.
But Rix believes that poor signings are far from exclusive to Orta arriving at the club, pointing to other poor additions during the Massimo Cellino regime.
He tweeted: “This Victor Orta scapegoat narrative has to stop. Did he sign Doukara, did he sign Diagouraga, Did he sign Wootton, Bellusci, Botaka, Erwin, Matt f***ing Grimes, Noel Hunt, Cani, Del Fabro, Montenegro? It’s not an exact science. He’s doing ok”
Club owner Andrea Radrizzani has remained loyal to Orta so far and has given no indication he is willing to part ways with his counsel less than a year since appointing him.
Some of Orta’s ‘flops’ still may come good in time, but Leeds fans are understandably impatient after more than a decade outside the Premier League.
Last season it appeared Leeds were close to challenging for promotion under Garry Monk.
Now they have taken a step back, and this has piled the pressure on the new men in charge.
