Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders has raved about Kaide Gordon on the club’s official website.
Lijnders has outlined what makes Gordon so special, and has suggested that the 16-year-old winger has a bright future ahead of him.
The Liverpool coach has added that how senior players in the team, such as James Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold, treat Gordon, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder.
Lijnders told Liverpool’s official website about Gordon: “So we take all these young players to the pre-season and when do you know you have a good player around you?
“It’s when the senior players start taking care of this young player. So when you see James Milner speaking with Kaide, when you see Trent becoming like a proper mentor, when you see that they invite him to sit on the table.
“All our boys invited him in our group and that made it, not easier, but it made it good for him, how to adapt to our team, to our style.
“He is what you see a lot with these kind of wingers – they can outplay, they can combine – but he has a goal in him and he has this natural ability to be in the box between the goalposts to score, even when the cross comes from the opposite side, for example. Not many talents have that.
“They have maybe dribbling skills but they don’t have this desire to shoot, to come in the box, to score. So he is a typical Liverpool Football Club winger, in my opinion, because he has goals, he has speed. We really like him and we are really happy he is with us.”
One for the future
Gordon seems to be rated very highly at Liverpool.
The way Lijnders publicly speaks about the teenager suggests that he is a gem.
Now, of course, we have to bear in mind that Gordon is still only 16 and has a lot of development and progress to undergo.
The winger might get some chances in the first team this season, but for now, he is essentially an Academy player.
However, Liverpool fans will hope to see Gordon establish himself in the first team in the coming years.
Being in and around the first-team players will only help the English teenager.
Gordon will get to know how professional he will have to be in his lifestyle and how hard he will have to work to become a star at Liverpool.
