Napoli’s super-coach Maurizio Sarri has suggested he could leave Naples this summer, claiming “everything comes to an end,” amid reported interest from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports News.
The Italian coach has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, replacing countryman Antonio Conte, whose future looks less than secure despite winning the FA Cup last weekend.
However, there’s another London club that should be paying close attention to the 59-year-old’s situation.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has yet to publicly commit his future to the club – although The Telegraph claim that the Argentine has held positive talks with chairman Daniel Levy -and this is one appointment they cannot afford to let pass them by if Pochettino is to leave.
The former Empoli boss has revolutionised Napoli’s football since arriving in 2015, turning the team into one of the most devastating attacking outfits in recent memory, and he was almost rewarded with the Serie A title this term, until Juventus pipped ahead with few remaining fixtures.
Sarri is essentially the perfect replacement for Pochettino, and would provide a nigh-on seamless transition football wise at White Hart Lane.
With a few well-placed additions, Sarri could have Tottenham challenging for the title and playing devastating attacking football.
It’s a perfect fit, and Spurs simply must clarify Pochettino’s situation now. They won’t have long to make their move otherwise, and may have to watch their London rivals prosper under his tutelage.
