Former Liverpool midfielder Suso is eyeing a return to Anfield this summer, but here is why Jurgen Klopp should avoid making a move for the AC Milan man.
AC Milan midfielder Suso has declared his desire to return to Liverpool next summer, revealing details regarding his current release clause with the Italian giants – according to the Liverpool Echo – but Liverpool should steer clear this summer.
Suso spent his early years at Liverpool, having been brought to Anfield as a 16-year-old from Cadiz back in 2010. The Spaniard would go on to make 21 appearances, scoring a single goal under manager Brendan Rodgers, before moving to the San Siro in 2015 for £1million.
Since then, the 24-year-old has become a key member of the Milan first-team, helping them secure successive Europa League qualifications. However, despite his prominent role at the club, he has expressed his desire to return to Merseyside some day soon, in quotes via the Guardian.
Despite the player’s notable growth since leaving the Premier League, Liverpool should steer well clear of this deal.
The £35million man now plies his trade on the right-wing for the most part, meaning his competition would come in the form of superstar Mohamed Salah and the constantly improving Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Suso is also an inverted winger, with his best work coming from his left foot.
Liverpool’s issues against deep-lying defences this term have undoubtedly come from a lack of width, and the acquisition of the young Spaniard – constantly looking to drift inside – would not rectify this issue.
He would also likely be resigned to a bit-part role at the club, given the prolific form of Liverpool’s front three this term, and £35million is hardly shrewd business for a squad player.
Although Suso is a very talented footballer, this one just does not make much sense.
