Charly Musonda has posted a goodbye message to Celtic fans, seemingly signalling an end to his loan spell, and here’s why Crystal Palace should move for his services.
Charly Musonda confirmed his exit from Celtic Park after an underwhelming spell with the Scottish champions, and once again his future looks uncertain.
The promising Chelsea academy graduate’s arrival was labelled as a masterstroke from manager Brendan Rodgers, with the Hoops tipping the Belgian to set the Scottish Premiership alight, over what was supposed to be an 18-month loan. However, it never quite clicked for the 21-year-old.
That’s not to say that Musonda won’t become a quality player one day though. The speedy winger possesses all the natural attributes to become a superstar in the future, having been likened to Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar for his high-speed dribbling ability and phenomenal balance.
Chelsea are coming off-the-back of a poor domestic season – finishing fifth – and will likely bring in quality summer additions in an attempt to quickly resolve issues within the team. This will probably mean that play-time for the developing players will be extremely limited at Stamford Bridge.
Crystal Palace have a recent track record of taking on top English outfits’ academy prospects; the most recent additions being Manchester United’s Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and both players have elevated their performance levels since moving to Selhurst Park.
Perhaps Crystal Palace should consider offering Musonda a loan-deal next season then. It would represent good business for both clubs, as Chelsea’s brightest prospect will receive improved Premier League experience, while Palace have the potential to unearth an absolute gem if things align for the youngster.
The prospect of Wilfried Zaha and Charly Musonda in a forward duo would be an extremely daunting prospect for any Premier League defence.
