The saga surrounding Toby Alderweireld will likely continue and Tottenham Hotspur should line up a move for Medhi Benatia if he leaves.

Toby Alderweireld’s future is far from resolved at Tottenham Hotspur and the saga is made more painful for fans by the player’s full focus on international duties with Belgium.
Although Spurs are not currently in talks with potential suitors Manchester United, according to Football.London, they are likely to face further interest for their star defender and must prepare for the possibility of his departure.
Juventus’s Moroccan centre-back Medhi Benatia is reportedly being phased out after starting just 20 games in Serie A last term, with the Italian champions putting a £20 million price on the player’s services (Calcio Mercato). And at that price Benatia would represent brilliant business for Spurs.

At 31, the defender is now in his prime and showcased his quality early on in the season, as he filled the boots of former fan favourite Leonardo Bonucci capably in the defence of the Serie A crown. And his performances have garnered interest from the likes of Arsenal and Marseille, according to the Sun.
However, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino should join the conversation now, before enquiries for Alderweireld likely escalate after the World Cup.

Although no longer considered a first-team player under Max Allegri, Benatia is undoubtedly a quality defender, and his physical approach to defending would suit the Premier League well if he was to make the move.
The Lilywhites could very well rue letting Arsenal secure his services uncontested this summer.
