Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly lost a big competitor in the race for the Fulham youngster’s signature.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is set to put interest in signing a new left-back on the back-burner, in favour of boosting central attacking options this summer, according to reports from the Independent.
It was initially thought that United, having already signed Fred and Diogo Dalot this month, would resume their pursuit of a left-back – with Alex Sandro touted as the main target (Manchester Evening News) – however, it seems another striker is higher on the list of priorities for Mourinho.
This news could potentially boost Tottenham’s chances of landing Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon (Evening Standard), with the Red Devils shelving reported interest in the 18-year-old.
Spurs are looking to improve their options at left-back, with Ben Davies being overused last term due to a lengthy knee-injury to Danny Rose, and Sessegnon is among Mauricio Pochettino’s favourite options to bolster the position (Daily Mail).
The England U21 international was pivotal in Fulham’s play-off triumph, netting a vital goal (his 16th) in the Cottagers’ semi-final win and, having received the accolade of Championship Player of the Year, he is now one of the finest young prospects in world football.
