Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles this summer, despite the player having an alleged price-tag of £45 million, according to the Evening Standard.

The north London club are considered likely to lose the services of star defender Toby Alderweireld this summer, with Manchester United circling for the 29-year-old’s signature, as reported by the Daily Star, and will move for reinforcements should negotiations progress for the Belgian.

Toby Alderweireld of Spura arrives prior to The Emirates FA Cup Quarter Final match between Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur at Liberty Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Swansea, Wales.

However, Tottenham fans are not too keen on the reported interest in the Magpies’ defender, feeling that the quality of player does not match the lofty asking-price, and they have taken to Twitter to express their reservations.

Here is some of the reaction from Tottenham supporters:

The general consensus seems to be that Lascelles is not worth the money, while many Lilywhites are annoyed that reports suggest focus has been diverted from signing long-term target Matthijs de Ligt (Evening Standard), who is widely considered to be a far more capable replacement for their star defender.

Tottenham are not the only Premier League side courting Lascelles though, as both Everton and Chelsea are said to be weighing up bids of around £30 million to attempt Rafa Benitez to part with his skipper at St James’ Park.
