Newcastle United are on the verge of making their first signing of the summer, having decided to activate Martin Dubravka’s permanent buy option for around £4million, according to Sky Sports News.
The Slovakia international has had a phenomenal start to life on Tyneside, putting in nigh-on faultless displays since his debut, notably keeping cleans sheets over both Chelsea and Manchester United in his short time with the club.
Dubravka conceded just 11 goals in 12 games for the Magpies, and has quickly become a fan favourite at St James’ Park.
France Football had claimed that Rafa Benitez had planned to make Paris Saint-Germain’s shot-stopper Alphonse Areola his priority summer signing, after frequent discussions with the 25-year-old throughout the year.
However, it now appears Rafa Benitez sees the Sparta Prague man as his main priority heading into the summer.
Newcastle fans will be pleased with the level of intent being shown by the Spaniard and by the board so soon, but there is still plenty of work to be done, starting on Thursday – when the transfer window officially re-opens.
