Manuel Pellegrini has been tipped for a busy summer transfer window as he moulds his West Ham United side.

Manuel Pellegrini is looking to bolster his West Ham outfit with quality additions this window ahead of loftier ambitions next term, and Chelsea’s forgotten man, David Luiz, certainly fits the bill.

Luiz, 31, has seriously fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea this term, having featured in just 10 games, with Antonio Conte instead opting to use both academy graduate Andreas Christiansen, and Antonio Rudiger alongside the ever-present Cesar Azpilicueta in a back three.

The Hammers’ boss is reportedly looking to secure the services of two central defenders in Genoa’s Armado Izzo and Barcelona’s Marlon Santos, according to reports from Sky Sports, but neither have experience of playing in England – the most physically demanding league in world football – and the Chilean may be better served to play it safe in such a vital position.

David Luiz on the other hand, has won the Premier League title, the Champions League and two FA Cups in two separate spells with the Blues, having also proven himself on the international stage with Brazil.

Stylistically he seems to fit the Pellegrini model also. The manager has revealed his desire to get West Ham back to playing “attacking” and progressive football next term, and there are few better at crafting attacks from defence than Luiz.

A permanent deal for the defender would likely cost West Ham a serious fee, but the player would represent a marquee signing for Pellegrini and his philosophy. With the owners backing the manager with “record funds,” according to BBC Sport, could the Hammers really tempt Luiz to the London Stadium?
