Liverpool fans seemingly helped Lucas Leiva win by a landslide.

Lucas Leiva of SS Lazio celebrates a fifth goal with his team mates during the serie A match between SS Lazio and Benevento Calcio at Stadio Olimpico on March 31, 2018 in Rome, Italy.

Liverpool fans are rejoicing after former cult hero Lucas Leiva received the accolade of Lazio Player of the Season, after Reds supporters hijacked the official Twitter poll.

The Rome-based club posted an official poll with Lucas Leiva, Luis Alberto, Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as the candidates for the award, and the former Liverpool captain won by an absolute landslide – taking 71 per cent of all votes.

Ciro Immobile of SS Lazio injured during the serie A match between Torino FC and SS Lazio at Stadio Olimpico di Torino on April 29, 2018 in Turin, Italy.

Although obviously amusing for neutrals the likes of Immobile, who completed his best ever season – netting 41 goals in 48 appearances – will fail to see the funny side and will likely feel aggrieved with the decision to leave the power in the hands of Twitter users.

Lucas was obviously thrilled with the result and took to social media to thank those who voted for him:

The Brazilian had a steady season with Lazio in central midfield, netting four goals in 50 appearances, but there is no question Immobile and Milinkovic-Savic were more deserving of the accolade.

Liverpool fans were understandably thrilled with the result regardless and took to Twitter to celebrate.
