Liverpool’s current number one Lloris Karius has all but ended his tenure as Liverpool’s first-team goalkeeper after his Champions League final capitulation. The club’s actions certainly suggest as much, with them launching a reported move for Barcelona’s back-up stopper Jasper Cillessen (Mundo Deportivo).
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is said to also be keen on both Roma’s Alisson Becker and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, but has been deterred by huge fees being touted for both, at £79 million and £100 million respectively (the Guardian).
But, perhaps the Champions League runners-up should be looking to land a ‘keeper with serious experience, that would guarantee results in what has been such a fragile position since Pepe Reina’s departure.
Inter Milan are looking to sign another goalkeeper this term, according to reports from Calcio Mercato, and with a push Liverpool could potentially convince the Nerazzuri to part with Samir Handanovic.
The Slovakian international is one of the finest goalkeepers in world football and, at the age of 33, Liverpool would not have to break the bank to bring him in.
There are also no concerns over his fitness at his age, with him having appeared in every league match last term, and if Liverpool want to iron out the mistakes that blighted their Champions League final appearance, there are few better potentially available stoppers in the game to do just that.
