Bordeaux’s Brazilian starlet Malcom has fuelled speculation surrounding his imminent departure from Ligue 1, asserting that Champions League football is a must.
Malcom has been touted as the next breakthrough Brazilian winger and has attracted the watchful eyes of a number of Europe’s biggest clubs this season. However, today one team with a particular interest in the 21-year-old received a huge knock in their efforts to sign him.
After Bordeaux’s 4-2 triumph over Toulouse at the weekend, Malcom talked up the possibility of joining one of Europe’s elite in the next transfer window (on Canal Plus – as quoted by Get French Football News), while asserting that Champions League football is a big factor in deciding his eventual destination.
“Like all players, I really want to play in the Champions League,” Malcom told Canal Plus.
Not the news Arsenal fans will have wanted to hear then, who were linked with a move for the forward in January, as the likes of Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck continue to start in wide areas.
However, both the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool – who are said to have the player on their summer wish-list, according to the Daily Mail – will both be enticed by his comments and will fancy their chances, having secured Champions League football on Sunday.
Since arriving at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux from Corinthians in January of 2016, Malcom has excelled for the French outfit, especially so this season, netting an impressive 11 league goals in 34 appearances from the right-wing.
