Rangers caretaker manager Jimmy Nicholl has seemingly delivered a warning to incoming manager Steven Gerrard regarding the quality of the current Gers crop.

Jimmy Nicholl bowed out of his position as Rangers’ caretaker manager in a 10-goal thriller at Easter Road, ending in a 5-5 draw on Sunday in one of the craziest football matches of his long career, and he left his successor an ominous warning in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun).
The Ibrox caretaker temporarily took the reins from Graeme Murty last month, after he was hounded out on the back of multiple hammerings from bitter rivals Celtic.
However, the Northern Irishman failed to secure a second-placed finish and will now depart, paving the way for Steven Gerrard to begin his career in professional management this June.

When questioned, Nicholl insisted it was not his place to say if he believes that Gerrard can get Rangers competing for the Scottish Premiership, only saying that the Liverpool legend needs potentially 15 or 16 players who understand what it means to play for the club.
“You need a hard core of 15 or 16 players who know what it’s about,” Nicholl said.
“Who know what it takes to win a football match, who can handle the demands put on you on and off the park. Are the numbers there? Sixteen? You’ll find out whether there is or not. That’s not for me to say.”
Gerrard will know the challenge ahead of him, but it could be a very busy summer at Ibrox to ensure Rangers are ready for next season.
