West Ham have confirmed that veteran defender James Collins will be leaving the club next month and fans are furious with his treatment.

West Ham’s long serving defender James Collins revealed yesterday on Instagram that he will not be getting a new contract with the Hammers and will be leaving next month, and the club have confirmed this in an official statement today.
It was recently reported that Collins had been made aware of the possibility of an axing by David Sullivan via email, and that the new boss Manuel Pellegrini would have the final say on his contract situation, via BBC Sport.
And it appears that upon his appointment the Chilean decided the 34-year-old is surplus to requirements at the London Stadium, and would be no part of his project in east London. The defender took to social media to display his grief with the decision.
Fans of the club took quarrel with the manner in which Collins was dismissed and expressed outrage on social media, and today that shows no signs of stopping, as fans flocked to West Ham’s official statement on Collins.
Here’s the reaction:
West Ham fans will now be hoping that the decision to let Collins leave was made with the intention of bringing in quality signings capable of elevating the club’s levels ahead of loftier ambitions next season.
