West Ham United and Argentina have suffered a huge blow today, with the news that Manuel Lanzini has ruptured his cruciate ligament in training, leaving him facing a lengthy spell in the treatment room and missing the World Cup this summer, according to Sky Sports.
Certain reports are claiming the player could be out until 2019 and a number of fans are expressing serious concern and eagerness to get a quality attacking addition in this summer, with Felipe Anderson reportedly in negotiations worth around £44 million (Sky Sports).
And ex-Hammers defender Daniel Gabbidon has taken to Twitter to plead with the club to show early initiative in the market after the unfortunate news:
A number of reported targets would go a long way towards filling the void Lanzini’s absence would leave, with Anderson and Barcelona’s Rafinha being the two most popular options on social media. Either way, the impetus is now on Manuel Pellegrini to get a deal over the line.
This news coincides with Manchester United’s increasing interest in last season’s top-scorer Marko Arnautovic, and the severity of the situation could very well result in West Ham terminating any discussions of the Austrian leaving – having already put a £60 million tag on his services to deter Mourinho (Daily Star).
