David Moyes heaped praise on brawny forward Marko Arnautovic after the Hammers’ 3-1 victory over Everton, claiming the Austrian was “unplayable.”
There’s no question that West Ham manager David Moyes sees Marko Arnautovic as one of his most reliable performers at the London Stadium, but even he was surprised at the levels the Austrian saved for the final day of the Premier League campaign, labelling him “unplayable” after speaking to Sky Sports.
West Ham broke the deadlock, as the 29-year-old unselfishly prodded the ball to Manuel Lanzini, who struck on the verge of half-time putting Moyes’ men in the ascendancy, before netting a stunning long-range effort himself in the second half.
On the day, the 29-year-old showed all his greatest attributes; his physicality, close control and positional awareness, rounding off a fantastic individual season in a struggling outfit.
He was rightfully awarded as West Ham Player of the Year in his debut season, and Moyes will be desperate to keep him through the summer and for the 2018/19 campaign.
“What a great performance,” Moyes told Sky Sports.
It was a good game, the players enjoyed it, I enjoyed watching it and we scored good goals. Our play all day was really good, in recent weeks our form has been really good, our football has improved, the players have got better, so that’s good.
“Look at times he (Arnautovic) can be unplayable. He had other opportunities, he was in on the keeper. When we came in, we were in the bottom three, and we’ve ended up in 13th so I would have taken that all day long, that’s for sure.”
Moyes will now have to fend off potential buyers when the summer window recommences, as the Austrian seems to be hitting his prime, and plenty of Premier League teams will be interested in luring him away from the London Stadium.
