Roy Hodgson is reportedly looking to improve Crystal Palace’s attacking force this summer, but this defensive addition could form a rock-solid partnership with Mamadou Sakho.
Crystal Palace have undoubtedly had an impressive season in the Premier League, comfortably avoiding relegation and finishing 11th, however Roy Hodgson will not be able to rest on his laurels and will have to bring in reinforcements to ensure a successful campaign next term.
All the names currently being touted for a move to Selhurst Park are attacking ones, as Wilfried Zaha’s contribution was vital for Palace’s mid-season resurgence and the club need to be prepared should the Ivorian suffer another serious injury.
However, the Eagles’ defence is hardly resolute at the moment – notably shipping three second-half goals against Manchester United at Selhurst Park – and a quality addition is needed to replace the ageing Damien Delaney in the squad.
Kurt Zouma is a fantastic option for the former England manager to consider, as Stoke City have been relegated and parent club Chelsea are unlikely to provide the game-time the Frenchman will want next season.
Alongside ex-Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, Zouma would flourish, as both players employ a similar style of defending, using their physicality and aggression to keep opposition attackers out, meaning an understanding could develop between the two pretty quickly.
James Tomkins has had arguably his best season for Palace, and the three could even be used together, with Zouma’s pace allowing for a seamless transition to playing as a wide centre-back.
Having joined the Potters on loan in July, Zouma signed a six-year deal with Chelsea, but he’s likely to face further stints away from Stamford Bridge, before he can establish himself as a first team regular.
