Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen appears to have committed his future to his current club amid rumours linking him with a departure from north London.

Christian Eriksen believes manager Mauricio Pochettino will take Tottenham to new levels if they can keep the Argentine beyond the summer, and has emphasised the importance of his role in progressing and developing the team, in quotes from the Evening Standard.

Pochettino has guided Spurs to three consecutive top-three finishes in the Premier League, creating and improving a young and supremely talented squad along the way.

However, despite their obvious progress as a team, Tottenham’s success continues to be weighed against their barren run of silverware – having last lifted the League Cup in 2008 – and after being knocked out of the Champions League last 16 and the FA Cup semi-final this term.

Eriksen is undeterred by these shortcomings though and predicts big things in the near future, one he hopes will involve him despite recent comments from Thomas Sorensen suggesting the Dane should move on.

“He’s really important,” the Dane told Evening Standard in regard to his manager. “You can see what he has achieved with this club.

“People should look at the stabilisation of the team and our achievements in the Premier League. The next step is, of course, to finish the semis and try to get through [to a final]. I think if we do what we did against all the teams in the Champions League again, we have a chance of going even further.”

“I think we’ve shown in the Champions League we have something we can take with us. We’re over the hill, we tried it. Now we want to win something, we want to go further. Mentally that’s a big step we need to go forward.”

After seemingly committing his short-term future to Tottenham, the PFA Team of the Year midfielder will now hope the board do everything possible to keep their mentor at the helm.

If they do that and sign smartly this summer, anything is possible…
