Tottenham’s Vlad Chiriches is wanted in Italy.

Not currently good enough to hold down a place in the Tottenham team, Vlad Chiriches is being linked with a January switch to Serie A.

Reigning champions Juventus are reportedly targeting the Romanian international, with Inter Milan also interested, reports Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio.

A report on his website reads: “Both Italian clubs are interested in Tottenham’s Vlad Chiriches. They are trying to see if Tottenham is open to a loan deal in January.”

Each side are currently experiencing injuries in defence, with Chiriches identified as an internationally experienced, and potentially short-term option.

Chiriches has made only two Premier League starts this season, failing to end up on the winning side on either occasion, a 2-2 draw at Sunderland and 0-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

He has not figured at all since his calamitous mistake in the Europa League against Partizan Belgrade on October 2, when he gave away a penalty with a farcical air kick, leading to a hand ball inside the box.

A sale may be tempting to Spurs, but a loan would have less appeal. He could add to his transfer value in Serie A of course, but this may be offset by the theory that having him remain in North London as cover is preferable, especially with their desires to progress in multiple competitions.
