Juventus could reportedly join the race to sign Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes, who this week has been approached by Chelsea over a potential deal in 2023.
According to CalcioMercatoWeb, the Brazilian has re-emerged on Juventus’ radar after the Italian giants passed on the chance to sign Guimaraes some years ago, with the Newcastle star now one of the hottest properties in the Premier League and one of the best midfielders in the division.
Juventus are not alone in their interest in Guimaraes, though, with Goal recently reporting this week that Chelsea have made an approach to the player’s representatives, with the Blues impressed with what they have seen from the 24-year-old since moving to Newcastle in January.
With two goals and two assists in the league this season, Guimaraes has played a huge role in Newcastle’s incredible rise up the Premier League under Eddie Howe and the PIF regime, and now, Juventus could plot a move to sign the midfielder in the upcoming winter window.
Given that Guimaraes just joined Newcastle and that the midfielder is seemingly loving life in the northeast, there’s little chance that the Magpies would sell their star player in the January window, even if the likes of Juventus make an offer that would see the Toon bag a profit.
Indeed, Guimaraes has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and whilst signing for a Juventus or Chelsea would mean a quicker route to the UEFA Champions League, the Brazilian could see himself getting Newcastle into the competition in the next two or three years.
Juventus and Chelsea should forget about signing Guimaraes
Newcastle’s project is arguably one of the most exciting in football, with Howe leading the Premier League side to unimaginable heights so soon into PIF’s regime of the club. And for Guimaraes, leaving for Juventus or Chelsea now would be an odd move for the midfielder.
After all, the Rio-born star could become an icon on Tyneside if Guimaraes continues to improve his game and to perform for Newcastle, and the prospect of where the Toon can go should be enough for the Brazilian to remain with the club beyond the January transfer window.
