Justin Thomas faces a longer wait than usual to return to golf from the offseason given that he recently underwent back surgery.
Thomas will miss the beginning of the 2026 PGA Tour season due to the surgery, having got back to winning ways in 2025.
The American star is a 16-time winner on the PGA Tour, and boasts two major wins at the PGA Championship.
But before the 2025 season, he experienced a lengthy drought, last winning at the PGA Championship in 2022.
Justin Thomas jokes he would fail miserably as an NFL player
Thomas ended that drought at this year’s RBC Heritage, but it will be a while before he can continue that success.
He has, however, remained in high spirits amid his recovery, having just taken to social media to ponder what life for him would be like in the National Football League (NFL).
Thomas wrote on X: “If I were to be a running back in the NFL, what would happen first… I’m knocked out of the game due to injury or fumble?
“Cue the “both at the same time!” (I think that’s my answer)”

Further major success may be a step too far for two-time winner Justin Thomas
It is not a career switch that Thomas will be making anytime soon, particularly with his current injury issue.
But he can rest easy knowing that he is likely in for further golfing success should he continue his hard work behind the scenes.
Whether or not he can return to major championship glory is another issue, with Thomas’ latest setback potentially really harming his chances, although hopefully that won’t be the case.
But of greater significance in that regard is the rest of the field, with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood looking really hard to beat going into 2026.
Thomas did, however, show his ability and indeed his class at the 2025 Ryder Cup, and can be quietly confident of another appearance at the team event.
