Jamie Redknapp has criticised Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on Sky Sports Premier League (5:34pm, November 6, 2022) for almost giving away a penalty to Tottenham Hotspur with his ‘push’ on Ryan Sessegnon.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder believes that Alexander-Arnold’s challenge on Sessegnon at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League game on Sunday evening was a penalty.
In the first half of the Premier League match between Tottenham and Liverpool on Sunday evening, Alexander-Arnold, 24, appeared to push Sessegnon in the area after 22 minutes.
It was similar to the one that saw Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo concede a penalty and dismissed against Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Verdict on Trent Alexander-Arnold v Ryan Sessegnon incident in Tottenham v Liverpool
Souness said: “The second angle, I think, Trent has got away with one there.”
Redknapp said: “It’s just unnecessary. Trent has got to calm down. He has been too rash in his defending.”
We know that Trent Alexander-Arnold has not been great defensively so far this season, and Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ryan Sessegnon did ask questions of the 24-year-old in North London this evening.
While Alexander-Arnold did have a decent game overall for Liverpool, he could not always cope with Sessegnon’s pace and quality.
It is clear that the Liverpool right-back needs to get used to defending more, especially in one-v-one situations.
