Former Rangers star Andy Halliday has lamented the ‘unbelievable’ performance of Fraser Forster during a League Cup final defeat by Celtic last season.
Steven Gerrard’s side dominated the showpiece at Hampden Park back in December but it was the Hoops who wound up lifting the trophy, winning 1-0 on the day.
It could and definitely should have been a different ending for Rangers, who also missed a penalty through Alfredo Morelos.
Forster, who was only on loan at Celtic last term, denied the South American from 12 yards and pulled off a string of fine saves that day.
And Halliday, who was released by the Ibrox club this summer, has told Open Goal that the big goalkeeper – who stands at 6’7 – was just incredible.
He said: “On that day, just nothing went for us. It’s probably one of the most one sided Old Firm games I’ve played in in terms of Rangers’ favour.
“Just nothing went for us. Fraser Forster was just unbelievable on the day.”
Celtic are trying to re-sign the Southampton-owned stopper [The Scottish Sun] but the player has reportedly decided against another switch to Parkhead.
It’s a big, big shame for Neil Lennon because with Forster in between the sticks, winning a 10th successive Premiership title is much more likely than with, say, Scott Bain.
And his display at Hampden proves it.
