Wolverhampton Wanderers may be setting the pace in the Championship but the players aren’t getting the recognition they deserve.

Wolves are four points clear at the top of the Championship and eight points ahead of the playoff places as they look set for a return to the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo has galvanised the club with his ambitiously assembled squad.

Wolves have won 16 of their 22 games so far this season, losing only three and have scored 42 goals along the way.

They are by far the most exciting team to watch and clearly the most difficult to beat.

But their players don’t seem to be getting the credit they deserve if Sky Sports’ Top 10 Championship players of the season so far list is anything to go by.

Leo Bonatini of Wolverhampton Wanderers celebrates after scoring the first goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Wolverhampton and Bristol City at Molineux on September 12,...

The Championship season reaches the halfway mark on Boxing Day and Sky Sports has compiled a top 10 players in the division so far in 2017/18 using its own ‘Power Rankings’.

But despite setting the pace from the get go this season, only two Wolves players make the top 10.

In ninth place was Leo Bonatini who has 12 goals and five assists to his name so far after signing from Al-Hilal.

Diogo Jota of Wolverhampton takes on Maikel Kieftenbeld during the Sky Bet Championship match between Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers at St Andrews on December 4, 2017 in...

Wolves star Diogo Jota was named the best player in the division with nine goals, four assists, 32 chances created and 60 dribbles completed, it is no surprise the Atletico Madrid loanee takes top spot.

The case could be argued that more of Santo’s players should have made the list.

The Portuguese won’t care a jot, though, just as long as his side keep on track for promotion back to the big time.
