Glen Johnson criticised Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney on Sky Sports News (1:56pm, November 28, 2020) for his action against Leeds United last weekend.

Controverial incident

Following Arsenal’s goalless draw with Leeds at Elland Road in the Premier League last weekend, Tierney went towards Leeds star Ezgjan Alioski.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Alioski went down after being headbutted by Nicolas Pepe.

While Pepe did push his head against the North Macedonia international’s, the Leeds star, who can play as a winger or as a left-back, did appear to go down to the ground easily with his hands on his face.

The Ivory Coast international winger was sent off, and the match eventually ended in a goalless draw.

Tierney – who joined Arsenal from Celtic in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £25 million – was not happy with Alioski’s involvement in the Pepe incident.

Glen Johnson’s take

Former West Ham United and Chelsea right-back Johnson, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has criticised the 23-year-old Scotland international left-back, stating that it was easy for the ex-Celtic star to show that he cares when there was no chance of him getting into a proper brawl with his teammates holding him back.

Johnson said about Tierney on Sky Sports News (1:56pm, November 28, 2020): “This is an easy opportunity to try and show that you care. He wants to go towards him when there are three or four people holding him back.

“So he doesn’t want to do anything. He is just trying to show people that he is doing the right thing. He didn’t show this character during the game.”
