Sunderland fans have urged Marcus Maddison to sign for them, after his latest tweet.

Maddison says that he has been ‘waiting on a phone call’ following the expiration of his contract at Peterborough United, as he decides which club to join next.

Sunderland have been long-term admirers of Maddison, with their interest reported by the Chronicle on multiple occasions.

The local paper claimed that Sunderland were keen on Maddison in November last year, but were reluctant to pay Posh’s asking price.

Maddison is now available on a free transfer though, and Black Cats fans are eager for him to be snapped up.

Maddison’s talent has rarely been in question, although his attitude has been criticised at times throughout his career.

There is no doubting that the winger is a major threat at League One level though.

During his time with Posh, Maddison was a real game-changer and the man Darren Ferguson’s side looked to be their match-winner constantly.

Maddison actually has been playing for Peterborough Sports in friendly matches to keep his fitness up, while he searches for a new club.
