Speaking on the Die for Three Points Podcast, Neil Warnock has been discussing England’s win over Iran and Bukayo Saka.
Last week, Warnock named the XI he would have used for the Three Lions’ opening game for the World Cup, and he picked Phil Foden over Bukayo Saka because he believes that Foden is more defensively astute than Saka.
Luckily, Gareth Southgate didn’t listen to Warnock’s advice and Saka quickly proved the former Sheffield United manager wrong by netting a brace.
Warnock has now admitted that playing Saka was the right call, stating that Southgate’s decision to play the Arsenal man shows why he’s such a good manager.

Saka proves Warnock wrong
The legendary manager spoke about Southgate’s selection.
“I’m so glad he went for a back four. The only difference in my team is that I would have put Foden in instead of Saka, but that just shows you why he’s a good manager because he scored two goals,” Warnock said.
Fantastic
Warnock wasn’t the only one who had to eat his words about Bukayo Saka.
So much was made of the winger after his missed the crucial penalty in the Euro 2020 final, but in his first major tournament appearance after that disappointment, he’s silenced each and every one of his critics.
Saka has exorcised those demons, and now, he looks like he could be one of the stars of this tournament.
Phil Foden is a fantastic player who would probably start for any team in this tournament, but with Saka in this sort of form, it’s impossible to leave the Arsenal starlet out of the starting XI.
