Liverpool fans have been left frustrated over claims that that Jadon Sancho is now too expensive for them.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sancho in the build up to the summer, with BILD suggesting that he is on Jurgen Klopp’s side’s radar.
However, Melissa Reddy spoke on Sport1, saying that Sancho is now likely to be out of their price range.
“Sancho’s excellent performances at BVB have exploded its value to a point that was unrealistic for Liverpool. Now with an exit clause, it is an unlikely deal because of the financial situation as a result of Covid,” the reporter said.
“Liverpool do not play expensive poker games, either like City, Manchester United or Chelsea, who can afford it. The transfers last summer were all on flexible terms. The Wolves, for example, only accepted around ten per cent of the guaranteed transfer fee for Jota for the first year of his transfer.
“One way to fund the refresh of the squad would be to sell a top striker (as in the case of Coutinho, who was sold for Van Dijk and Alisson transfers), but it’s not a buyer’s market. Real Madrid and Barcelona, usually targets of such top talent are deep in debt. Liverpool have more pressing priorities to improve their squad, such as defensive, so it would be difficult to picture Sancho at Anfield.”
With the pressure already mounting on FSG at Liverpool, the transfer news comes at a bad times for them.
The Reds are desperate for investment, and suggestions that elite players that Sancho could be out of their price range again have come as a major disappointment.
Sancho would once have seemed like a lavish purchase for Liverpool when their attack was in full flow, but it is clear now that they need an injection of quality into their front three this summer.
Liverpool’s front line, with the exception of Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah, hasn’t performed to the top of their games this season, and there is a feeling that Klopp’s side does need freshening up.
By bringing in Sancho, Liverpool would have their hands one one of the hottest prospects in European football.
But it seems that the Reds could be left frustrated, as interest in the 20-year-old builds from other Premier League clubs.
