Dundalk coach Shane Keegan has raved about Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson on Off The Ball.

Keegan was impressed with the display produced by Nelson during Arsenal’s win against Dundalk in the Europa League this week.

Mikel Arteta’s side got the better of the League of Ireland Premier Division club 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium in their second Group B game on Thursday evening.

Keegan said that the Dundalk players were impressed by the display produced by the 20-year-old winger, adding that 29-year-old central midfielder Chris Shields told him that he will vote for the England Under-21 international in the FiFA World Player of the Year award.

The Dundalk coach told Off The Ball regarding the best Arsenal player on the night: “It was probably Reiss Nelson. He ordinarily wouldn’t be within touching distance of making an Arsenal matchday squad but it was just ridiculous to see him in action.

“I’m probably speaking for the players more than for myself here. I asked the players who impressed them most and half a dozen of them came back with him.

“Chris Shields said he’s giving him his number one vote in the FIFA world player of the year, that was how impressed he was by him.”

Nelson started for Arsenal and had a very good game on a personal level.

The 20-year-old winger was the Gunners’ main creative outlet, was a contact problem for the Dundalk defenders with his running and crosses, and was a force to be reckoned with.

According to WhoScored, the youngster took three shots but none of them was on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 83.3%, took 67 touches, attempted two dribbles, made one tackle and one interception, and put in 10 crosses.
