Reported Leeds United target Lovro Majer has played down speculation linking him with a January move away from Dinamo Zagreb, speaking to Sportske Novosti.

From Luka Modric to Niko Kranjcar and Mateo Kovacic to Robert Prosinecki, Dinamo certainly have a fine track record when it comes to producing talented, technically gifted central midfielders.

And Majer, the 22-year-old home-grown starlet who wears the number 10 shirt with pride, appears to be on the verge of following his illustrious compatriots to the top of the European game.

The so-called ‘new Modric’ is ready for a new challenge and, according to Calciomercato, has his pick of clubs.

AC Milan, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund are all masters of unearthing rough diamonds from some of Europe’s lesser leagues. However, the chance to hone his talents under the legendary Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds may be one too good to turn down.

Not that the Croatia international was willing to give much away when asked about his future today.

“I don’t burden myself too much. (The speculation) will always be written and spoken about when you play well. I just need to play my football and not deal with it,” he says.

“I feel really good. I am full of confidence and ready. I enjoy every game.”

Majer, who is understood to be valued at about £9 million, has produced five goals and assists in just six league games for the reigning Croatian champions in 2020/21.

Fleet of foot and quick of pass, his quality on the ball and relentless work ethic off it means he would have little trouble adapting to Bielsa’s ‘murderball’ tactics at Elland Road.
