Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the Sky Sports pundit has made a claim about Tottenham’s strength in depth, claiming that they have the players to be challenging for the top four.
The London club lined up with an interesting side against Aston Villa at the weekend, and Nevilla says that the sheer talent on their bench showed just how good their squad is.
To be fair to Neville, Spurs had a ridiculously talented bench to call upon on Sunday, and he was quick to make that point.
“Just looking at the bench for Spurs, and obviously we knew the starting team, but with Joe Hart, Bale, Dier, Sissoko, Dele Alli, Bergwijn, Ben Davies” Neville said.
“I know Jose Mourinho mentioned two 16-year-olds on the bench as young players coming through, but the amount of experience and quality in depth, and that’s without other players who aren’t on that bench or aren’t in the team, so they should be challenging for fourth place, they really should,”

Just look at the names Neville has listed there.
A former Golden Glove winner, a two-time PFA Player of the Year winner, a former PFA Young Player of the Year, a World Cup winner and a Dutch international.
These are fantastic players that are only making the bench, and as Neville says, that’s without even mentioning players who weren’t in the team on Sunday, such as Heung-Min Son.
The reality is that Spurs have a squad good enough to be challenging at the top, but underperformance this season has really blighted them.
Hopefully, they can mount a late top four challenge.
