Michael Stewart has written in The Scottish Sun that Celtic should appoint Jesse Marsch as their new manager.

Celtic are on the hunt for a new permanent manager following the departure of Neil Lennon in February.

John Kennedy has been placed in charge of the first team until the end of the season.

Former Manchester United and Hibernian midfielder Stewart, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, has said that Marsch would be a good appointment for Celtic, comparing the RB Salzburg manager to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea chief Thomas Tuchel before they took charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Stewart wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Marsch, in particular, intrigues me. Someone mentioned his name to me when Neil Lennon left. It might seem a bit left-field at first, but the closer you look at it the more it begins to make sense.

“He’s someone who has worked his way up and is doing a very good job at Red Bull Salzburg. He has good contacts throughout Europe, he speaks a number of languages and there’s clearly a buzz about him right now.

“People are sitting up and taking notice. Borussia Monchengladbach have already been linked and there’s a suggestion he could go back to Leipzig, where he was once No 2.

“He’s just like Jurgen Klopp or Thomas Tuchel before they landed at Dortmund and went on from there. Marsch has told people over there he wants to boss in the Bundesliga rather than Parkhead — but who knows what the future will hold?

“For me, it makes perfect sense for Celtic to try and get in now and get him while they still can.”

Would Jesse Marsch be a good managerial appointment for Celtic?

Marsch is a very highly rated manager who is relatively young as well and is doing well at Salzburg.

Under the former USA international, Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga and the Austria Cup last season, and they could clinch the championship again this campaign.

The 47-year-old would be a good managerial appointment for Celtic, but the question is whether the Scottish champions would be able to secure his services.

Bild journalist Christian Falk has claimed on Twitter that Marsch, 47, has told Celtic that he will not be available to take charge of the Hoops.
