Speaking on his Podcast, Gary Neville has been speaking about Tottenham’s performance against Liverpool, and he’s compared Antonio Conte to Jose Mourinho.
The Italian took a point off of Liverpool on Saturday evening in what was a bit of a smash and grab performance that drew criticism from Jurgen Klopp.
However, a point is a point, and according to Neville, Conte has that ability to spoil other teams’ hopes in the same way Jose Mourinho used to.
What’s been said?
Neville compared Conte to Mourinho.
“I think Conte has that in him, just like Jose used to have, he has that ability to spoil and that ability to get a point or a win away at a big team. He has that ability as a coach to manage that type of performance. I thought Harry Kane was absolutely unbelievable, and it was a top-level performance against Liverpool and Spurs had to withstand a lot of pressure defensively,” Neville said.

Mourinho-Esque
We’d be lying if we said that Spurs’ performance at the weekend didn’t remind us of a peak Jose Mourinho team.
The Portuguese gaffer made a career out of frustrating opposition teams in big games and grinding out results. Just look at his run to the Champions League final in 2010 and that second leg at Camp Nou as a prime example.
Conte may be more expansive than Mourinho ever was, but he also has that trick up his sleeve where he can grind out a result and kill any team’s momentum in a big game, especially away from home.
Tottenham got rid of Mourinho because of his flaws, but in hiring Conte, they’ve managed to retain one of his best traits.
