Thiago Alcantara is proving himself a wonderful signing at Liverpool, isn’t he?

Well, you could never really question the quality of the Spain international, because he’s been a household name for about a decade.

But it’s been a stop-start stint at Liverpool following his £20 million move from Bayern Munich.

Over the past seven days, however, Thiago has proven his quality.

First, he had Arsenal on strings for 90 minutes in last week’s 4-0 win at Anfield.

Then he scored the finest goal he’s probably ever going to score in a Liverpool shirt, with his skimmed half-volley rippling the net from 25 yards against Porto in the Champions League.

And today, he scored the Reds’ third of the evening, smashing home after deceiving a few visiting players.

And here’s Stephen Warnock’s assessment of his latest goal.

Warnock told BBC Sport: “We saw an incredible goal from Thiago in midweek but it is just his quality with the ball.

“He’s got such a great technique. He got a bit fortunate but if you don’t shoot, you don’t score.”

Massive

This last week has reminded Jurgen Klopp that when fit, Thiago is absolutely massive for Liverpool.

Bear in mind we haven’t been talking about injuries to Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones as of late.

That’s because Klopp’s side aren’t missing them – and that’s because of talent like the Spaniard.

With Thiago’s injury record, it’s hard to think of him as an ever-present in Klopp’s first XI without jinxing it.

But he’s certainly been absolutely superb and from a Liverpool perspective, long may it last.
