Steve Bruce praised the Newcastle United supporters and how he could hear them ‘two hours before’ their Premier League showdown on Sunday, as he told Super Sunday on Sky Sports Premier League.
The Newcastle boss shared that there was a ‘different vibe’ around St James’ Park yesterday, with this being the first game since the club’s new takeover.
Whilst it was carnival-like atmosphere before kick-off, it went up a notch two minutes into the game when Callum Wilson put the home side ahead.
But all of that quickly changed because Spurs scored three goals before the break, which dampened the mood in the North East.
However, Bruce praised what he was hearing from the Newcastle fans hours before kick-off.
“You can tell there is a different atmosphere and there is a different vibe,” said Bruce. “Even when you go outside of the stadium now.
“I have just heard the supporters already and we are two hours before kick-off.”
For the opening two minutes, Newcastle played like a team that were feeding off the good feeling around the stadium.
That Alan Shearer-esque header from Wilson, the high aggressive press and forcing the Tottenham players into mistakes, it was all going well.
But as soon as Spurs went direct, rather than playing through the middle, they punished Newcastle’s backline when Tanguy Ndombele coolly curled the ball into the back of the net.
And the Magpies couldn’t stop the attacking threat from the Spurs players then, with Harry Kane, Ndombele, Lucas Moura, Sergio Reguilon and Heung-Min Son running riot.
