Dorus de Vries joined Celtic from Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.

Dorus de Vries must have been delighted when he joined Celtic in the summer transfer window. De Vries was already playing for a big club, Nottingham Forest, but the move to Celtic was certainly a step-up.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper was signed by manager Brendan Rodgers in order to compete with Craig Gordon for the spot between the posts. At one stage, it did appear that the Dutchman would be able to establish himself in the first team.
However, Gordon is still the number one goalkeeper at Celtic and recently signed a new contract with the Bhoys. As for de Vries, he has been able to feature in only five competitive matches for the Glasgow giants so far this season.
De Vries is clearly the second-choice goalkeeper at Celtic at the moment, and it is not going to change next season.
The former Swansea City and Wolverhampton Wanderers man’s current contract with the Hoops runs out at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, but it would make sense for the goalkeeper to leave in the summer transfer window.
The former Forest goalkeeper is going to be the second choice next season. Given that De Vries is now 36 years of age, surely he would not like to play out the final years of his career as a substitute.
