Gary Lineker has given his take on Twitter on the penalty that Liverpool conceded in the closing stages of the first half of their Premier League game against Manchester City this evening.

In the 41st minute of the match at the Etihad Stadium, Liverpool central defender Gomez was adjudged to have handled Kevin de Bruyne’s cross inside the area.

The 23-year-old had his arm up, and while it was clearly unintentional, the ball did hit his arm and a spot kick was awarded. City midfielder De Bruyne missed the penalty.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England international striker Lineker was following the match, and he was not impressed with the decision.

Meanwhile, former City winger Trevor Sinclair has criticised the decision to award Liverpool a penalty in the 12th minute.

Sadio Mane was adjudged to have been brought down by Kyle Walker, and Egypt international forward Mohamed Salah made no mistake from the resulting penalty.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw. While it was a breathtaking affair in the first half, it slowed down after the break, as the two teams cancelled each other out.
