Roy Keane stated that the assist from Arsenal transfer target Antoine Griezmann for France’s winning goal during their World Cup quarter-final clash against England on Saturday was ‘just amazing’.
Whilst all the talk before France’s showdown with England was about a certain Kylian Mbappe, it was Atletico Madrid’s versatile forward, Griezmann, running the show for his side.
The 31-year-old, who is a transfer target of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, has perhaps been France’s best player at the World Cup, even if Mbappe has five goals to his name.
Against England, it was Griezmann’s pass that saw Aurélien Tchouaméni hit a quite brilliant effort from outside of the box to give France a first-half lead.
But his second assist was a thing of beauty because, after the ball was recycled out to the left, the 115-capped international whipped in a stunning ball right into the heart of England’s penalty area, before it was nodded home by Olivier Giroud.
It was a moment of brilliance from Griezmann and he showed why he is a World Cup winner, which left Roy Keane impressed, as he told ITV Sport.
“As poor as France were, we need a reminder that the ball in from Griezmann was just amazing,” said Keane. “Listen, the two goals England conceded, they will be disappointed with the defending.
“But the quality of that ball, let’s not forget about it. That was a fantastic delivery.”
ARSENAL NEED A FORWARD
Arsenal fans hated this World Cup break for a number of reasons, one of them being that it halted their fast-start and rise to the top of the Premier League table.
That momentum which was being brewed up by Mikel Arteta and Co. was something special, but supporters were fearful that it would result in an injury to a key player.
Well, that’s exactly what happened with Gabriel Jesus, as Arsenal will now be searching for a fresh face to come in from the transfer market to replace their stricken star.
That call, which is made by those above, could prove to be season-defining for the Gunners because of what they have been producing this season.
